Guest speakers aren't the number one instrument that you think of when it gets to creating self-awareness in the U.K. corporate market. In ancient times Socrates stated the "know thyself" principal but regrettably for some people it brings up reflections of weeks in deep-thinking yoga sessions or early morning excursions against a mountain. One of the building blocks of self-awareness is to come aware of potential blind sides. This is where guest speakers enter into the equation. Outsiders sometimes carry more credibility due to a variety of reasons and therefore a useful tactic to use. Appraisals, measurements and 360-degree sessions are enormously valuable in this course of action, but don't underestimate the value of guest speakers to hold up the mirror.
