Humour

A speaker who lacks a sense of humour gives his audience the impression that he is unreal, inhuman or very conceited. Humour is the characteristic that shows that you are just another human being, and that you have a warm and lively interest in everything that goes on around you. It does not imply that you have the natural ability to tell jokes, though there is nothing to stop you from including a humourous story if fitting. The belly-laugh type of humour has its place, but not here. You’ll find that if you can take advantage of an unrehearsed situation that has cropped up by introducing a well-placed pause or even just a smile, it is most effective. Humour directed at yourself is the most effective.
