From the speaker’s point of view, enthusiasm can best be defined as the outward show of sincerity. It is not shouting and it is not overdramatic speech. It is not waving your arms and leaping about on the stage. It is the way you show belief in your subject. You have to be enthusiastic in your own way. If you happen to have a dynamic personality, it will show up in your brisk and energetic movements incorporating sweeping gestures and a relatively fast rate of speech. Your speech should have plenty of vocal force. If you have a more subdued nature you will move with less energy and speak in more measured tones. Never hide behind the pretence of dignity, which takes up a stiff and monotonous mouthing of words. Stop at nothing within the borders of common sense to persuade and teach your audience.
